Nokia N82 Review

In many ways, it’s easy to characterize the Nokia N82 as a cheaper N95. But one advantage the N82 has over its brother is its longer battery life. With normal usage, the phone lasts almost two days, compared to less-than-a-day lifespan of the N95.
Fulfilling the Marketing Tagline “Connecting People”
This means the N82 has much of the capability demanded by users who want to stay connected. Aside from being a quad-band GSM phone, which makes the gadget usable in many parts of the world, the N82 has HSDPA, which lets it surf the internet at high-speeds over a cellular network.
Built-in WiFi also provides another way to connect to the internet, while Bluetooth allows easy file transfers and the use of wireless headsets. The N82’s preinstalled web browser was very versatile. We used it to publish an article while at an event, and provides a surfing experience close to what you would expect on a computer.
Multimedia Mania
Aside from these generous connectivity options, the N82 also enjoys a wide set of multimedia features. Users can play music and watch videos, while a 5-megapixel camera with flash allows them to capture pictures and videos. The 3.5mm earphone jack means that the phone can accept standard earphones without the need for an adaptor.
But by far the most useful feature of the N82 is its ability to connect to other gadgets, courtesy of the bundled component cable. This allows users to look at pictures, watch videos, and play music on HD TVs and stereos, sharing what they have with the entire room.
A Few Drawbacks
There are some drawbacks that potential buyers should look out for though. We recommend not removing the plastic film that’s stuck over various areas of the phone in brand-new condition. The chrome and enamel paint finish of this gadget attracts fingerprint smudges and scratches.
The stylized appearance of the phone will win converts, but will also earn its share of detractors. Our resident Mac expert found the phone too retro and ugly for his taste. Aside from the looks, he also didn’t like the numeric keypad. It’s thin and slightly-raised keys made pressing them a little more difficult than usual.
We also wish Nokia would use the standard USB port on all of its phones, so that all their models can work with any USB cable. The E51 and the 5310 may have it, but the weird shape of the N82’s USB port means that it uses USB cables available only from Nokia.
Once again, the decision on whether or not to buy this phone is based on its price. At 24,610 (less on the Philippine grey market), the Nokia N82 is a mroe practical option for those who want a very capable multimedia phone. The price tag makes it decidely high-end, but this is a case of getting what you paid for.
