Microsoft Philippines Sued for Alleged IP Violations
By Rico, 10:10 am Tue Dec 18 2007 - News - What Do You Think?
Southeastern College (SEC), a school located in Pasig, has sued Microsoft (and local arm Microsoft Philippines) for Php 100 Million, accusing the company of violating their copyright:
The case stemmed from Microsoft’s allegedly unauthorized and illegal “digital copying” and distribution of a locally developed manual on the use of Microsoft Office. Ironically, Microsoft has been at the forefront of attempting to curb the illegal distribution of its own copyrighted software in the Philippines [and] works with the Optical Media Board and the Pilipinas Anti-Piracy Team to conduct raids on copyright-infringing software in the country.
The irony is interesting to us here at Technograph. Whether or not the company is guilty of intellectual property violations, we’re pretty sure that some heads will roll in Microsoft Philippines.
