The Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats (download here) is an installation that lets users of Microsoft Office work with Office 2007 documents (files ending with .docx, .xlsx, etc.). Supported versions are the 2000, XP, and 2003 editions of Microsoft’s de facto office software suite.
Aside from the vastly overhauled interface that has confused even long-time users, Office 2007 has come under fire for its OpenXML specification (on which its documents are based) and its incompatability with existing Office formats.
